Believe it or not we just got here... 5 pm sunday having left Montreal at 6pm (Montreal time) on Saturday!!
The flights all went well and we got to venice, hooked up with Casey who was coming in half and hour later and got on our bus to Mestre where we were to catch a train for Bassano.... only to find that the trains or at least some of them are on strike today and none were running to Bassano. Some confusion in the train station involving back and forths between the ticket counter (where each time there was a good long wait) at one end of the station and the information centre at the other end. No one seemed to know quite which trains were running if any at all. Finally we got ourselves on to a train headed to Padova, not at all sure that we were getting any closer to Bassano. However in Padova we did find a bus (just as it was leaving) that seemed to be heading to Bassano. So on we got and some time later arrived in Bassano! Yay! Apparently there was a train strike last time that Caroline was in Bassano to - it seems to be a tradition! There is still Ester to come. She has made it to Venice and now needs to navigate all this on her own. Thank goodness for text messages!
The drive from Padova reminded me a great deal of the drive from Alberta into the rockies. We were on a very flat plane but there were the huge wall of the alps looming ever closer. Here in Bassano we are right on the doorstep of the mountains. I am looking forward to exploring. The B&B is great. My room looks out to the mountains.
I will send pictures when there is some daylight.
