Yesterday we traveled and the way from Copenhagen in the south east of Denmark to Aalborg in the north. It is almost as far as you can go in Denmark from one side to the other. The trip took 5 hours on the train. Again, a very pleasant trip. And now, here we are in Aalborg - another world to discover. A much smaller port town with a nice old core. More on Aalborg in the days to come.

Louisiana Museaum
On Flor's recommendation, I spent our last day in Copenhagen off at the Louisiana Museum. It turns out that they have an exposition on right now called 'Eye Attack' which is exploring artists of the 50's and 60's who were exploring the effect of colour and shape on the eye and on our sense of perception which is exactly what we are doing in PRISMES. The coincidence seemed too amazing to miss so I took the 40 min train ride up along the coast to this magical spot.

Giacometti and a exquisite room.
Richard Serra. One of my favourite from Bilbao. I love his big slabs of metal imbedded in the land.

I don't remember who the artist is for this white square but it also speaks beautifully with the sea.
More of the sculpture garden.

Astoria art deco
Hotel Astoria must have been built in the 1930's. Very simple rooms full of art deco charm.
These curved revolving doors are apparently the oldest in Denmark.
With our renovations at home very fresh in my mind I found myself thinking of Flor often and how well much of these designs would fit in her new home. Qu'est ce que t'en pense Flor?

First two shows - Bellerup
Our first two shows were in Bellerup, on the outskirts of Copenhagen. An easy 35 min on the train and then a walk across some fields to the theatre. I am hot sure exactly who comes to this theatre, is it people who live near-by or do folks travel out from Copenhagen? We did meet a pair at a restaurant in Copenhagen who came out to the show. The first night the audience was largely older people and I don't think that they quite knew what to make of PRISMES but the second night was a mixed croud - old and young and we all had a great time!

A day exploring Copenhagen
How civilized to have a day before we start in the theatre. I spent mine wandering about the streets of Copenhagen following wherever my nose took me - so delicious! Here is some of what I saw.
Denmark is known for it's bicycles but I didn't imagine to what extent... here is one in gold at the top of a tour!
A construction site for a new metro. I was struck at once at how orderly it all is. Nothing like the sites that I see around Montreal.
This is called 'the round tower' and so it is. It is attached to a church is the oldest observatory in Europe. It is a beautiful slopping space that winds one up to the top of the tower.
from the top - the bridge in the distance takes one across the water to Sweden.
View out the window of the 'rundetaarn'.
The royal palace. The place visiting hours were over but the gardens around are there for all to enjoy.
Queen with palace and bird.
The green-house.
A swan very happy to show off his lovely wings.
This is the first time I see double decker bike racks. You have to put all those bikes somewhere!

Hotel Astoria - Copenhagen
Here we are on our first stop of our Danish tour 2016. We are staying in Copenhagen at the Hotel Astoria which has a certain art deco beauty if a little faded.
This is the view from my room window. There is the train station in the foreground and behind there is the Trivoli which is a very old amusement park... those are people swinging from the end of those ropes!

Callahan Valley
A beautiful day in the Callahan Valley in crystal white snow and bright sunshine. So much beauty all around. The girls are now able to ski and are keen to do so most of the time - what a change from a few years ago when each fall was a tragedy and each hill a major ordeal!
